Thank heaven for little girls

One thing I missed by not going east this week—is seeing my niece’s identical twin girls.

So I’m thankful that Thanksgiving week brought two new little girls into my family circle on the west coast.

I’m related to Willa by divorce— H and I split up years ago but never split up the connections with his family—and this is the first member of the next generation.

Her dad is James, my nephew who spoils every family dinner by dragging out the scale. At  13 pounds, 2 ounces —2-month old Willa is  the only female in the family willing to disclose her weight.

Earlier this week I also met Taylor,  minutes after she was born.

I haven’t seen such a new baby ever—other than my own—So I’m really grateful for this experience and the fact that Jane, always such a generous friend, is willing to share her fourth grandchild.

Like so many people, I live a long way from my blood relatives.   And the definition of family expands— along with the distances that  separate us.

Neither of these babies is  ” officially ” related—-but they are ” family”.   And though my nephew Max cooked an absolutely amazing Thanksgiving dinner, nothing is more delicious.
