One day after Halloween and I’m eating my words (in addition to eating all the leftover candy…)
There are some advantages to an empty nest. With the kids gone, you can act like kids.
Here’s how V and I spent the night: No costumes. No handing out candy. No tricks.
Just treats. We went to a slumber party.
Not a big party; just us sleeping over at Jane’s….so we wouldn’t have to drive home. I HIGHLY recommend this.
I also recommend— for the ultimate sleepover experience —-you find a friend like Jane—-always generous and gifted….. who invites you to a fantastic homecooked dinner….provides the finest quality bathrobes and an ocean-view room…..
….complete with bags of See’s chocolate on the pillow….and rose petals!
It’s a full service resort, Chez Jane.
But hey, I did contribute something to this memorable evening:….
P.S. I’d rather have that Post Ranch Chocolate creme brulee. Or anything chocolate. But Spotted Dick tasted way better than it sounds.

I want a friend like Jane! Looks like a perfect night. I’m kind of looking forward to the empty nest. It’s this in-between stage that’s a little strange. My daughter (15) was out Trick or Treating, then slept over a friends. I made her call each hour till she was in for the night and could call from a land line. I got to relax at home and watch the ball game, yet was still on duty, with her out and about. Your night sounds like much more fun!
Your daughter sounds really cooperative for a teenager. It gets much easier when the kids are gone– somehow I don’t worry as much when it’s so far out of my control. Out of sight, out of mind maybe? Definitely one of the major benefits of an empty nest.
