I’m over it.   And I never even opened the can.

Can I say it  just one more time?  Even though I promised I wouldn’t?    I’m moving on from Spotted Dick.

I’m still on dessert.    But this time, much closer to home.  Just 30 miles down the coast.

I spent a beautiful day in Big Sur with Trudy, Cynthia and Myra— celebrating birthdays.   Trudy’s is today.    Mine….is….not today.

Two months after the fact, after the excess of August,  you’d think I’d be embarassed  about this endless birthday.   Only I’m not.  Because if it had been only Trudy’s celebration, we would have eaten sorbet  —and they wouldn’t have ordered a second dessert for me.    And I would have missed out on possibly the best chocolate dessert I’ve EVER had.

Maybe I should say that again— I don’t say this lightly: possibly the best dessert I’ve EVER had.

It could have been the setting—you can’t  top the Post Ranch Inn.    Or it could’ve  been the company….the mood….the moment.   But I don’t think so.

Read my lips:   Valrhona.   Chocolate.   Caramel.  Creme Brulee.

And if you speak chocolate, come back tomorrow….

what a beautiful group of women!

  2. Marla Wentner says:

Your dessert looked like the best ever. Was the creme brulee portion really crispy when you broke through the top and then perfectly creamy, smooth and vanilla-beany at the bottom?

You must come to Cavallo Point in Sausalito, which the Post Ranch developers completed in the last couple of years. It is a must see hotel, restaurant complex, lovingly restoring a military base with lovely views of the Golden Gate Bridge and City. The restaurant is called Murray Circle and it is a dining experience. Bring Dana!

A co-worker (back in the days when I had a job) once enlightened me on the subject of dessert: if it isn’t chocolate, it doesn’t count. I relate!

  4. I relate to ALL of these comments —thank you Ruthie for the compliment; thank you Marla for the suggestion which I will definitely try sometime; and thank you Mark for adding a smile to the conversation.
