I’ve had birthdays on the brain lately…..Not only mine but my friend Carol’s birthday, and my mother’s.
We all have birthdays on the brain.
Whether you’re going to a surprise party for a friend…
planning a birthday party for your toddler….
scarfing down a piece of cake with your co-workers….
or fearful about facing the big one…40? …50?….…
those birthdays keep coming….
If you’re lucky.
Happy Birthday— the most popular song in history….has a flip side….
the friend whose surprise is not a party but a cancer diagnosis…..
the co-worker who gets chemo instead of cake…….
the woman with breast cancer who would be happy to reach 50…..
the mom who isn’t planning a party, but praying….that her child survives leukemia and lives to celebrate her next birthday….
Those are birthday stories too.
Now there is a wonderful way to take those birthdays on the brain…and become part of the birthday chain—part of helping to create a world with more birthdays .
If you have a blog:
I’m proud to be part of the American Cancer Society Bloggers for More Birthdays, encouraging others to share the message and help create a world with more birthdays. Whether your story is happy or sad, telling it is a simple way to become part of something important. Click here to join the blogger’s birthday chain, dedicate a story on your own blog, and encourage others to do the same.
If you are Blog-Less
You can still take part, and enjoy this opportunity to honor someone you love —just email a story to bloggersubmit@officialbirthdayblog.com and we’ll post it for you.
I’m honored to be part of this effort—and it’s brought me into contact with some amazing women. Here are two stories posted today: Celebrating More birthdays: by Julie Pippert. To the community of women: by Morra Aarons Mele
The story you choose to tell might be happy or sad. Just telling it makes you a link in the chain connecting you to the effort to create a world with more birthdays…. a better world for all of us.
