97728_paris-michael-katherine-jackson-addresses-the-crowd-at-the-michael-jackson-public-memorial-july-7-2009First I complained.  And then I watched.   Once I started I couldn’t stop.  And now I can’t stop thinking about it.

I’m not thinking about what I was thinking while I watched.   After watching for more than 2 hours, I’m left with 20 seconds–now seared into the world’s collective memory.  We’re all left with the image of a little girl on a huge stage– who lost not only her father but the only parent she’s ever known.

Her pain,  palpable and raw, broke even the hardest heart.   Her voice,  never heard in public, now has been heard in every corner of the globe.   After all the songs and all the staging and all the stars and all the sensationalism—  it comes down to  26 words:

Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine.  And I just wanted to say I love him….. so much.”

I know it’s being naive and sentimental to say I hope the courts and the family and the fans and the world will take those 26 words to heart.   Because  what else matters more?  So I’m ending this post with the exact same words as yesterdayIt’s all about the kids.
