There were similarities and scenes in her struggle that struck close to home. But the truth is that my cancer story was a journey; Farrah’s story is a war.
It hit me so hard I feel compelled–and yet almost reluctant– to write about it. Especially since I wrote about her yesterday.
Her words– from the passages that she reads aloud from her journal– expressed perfectly the plunge into Cancer World, the profound sense of desperate loneliness. In telling her story she abandoned every shred of vanity—without losing a shred of dignity.
Poignant. Provocative. Powerful.
Combined with the HBO Alzheimer’s Project, this has been a tough week of television.
Next week I’m going to stick with Dancing with the Stars. Or else turn off the set.
