Anywhere you look today, chocolate is everywhere. It’s almost mandatory to eat it. And there’s no guilt involved. What could possibly be wrong with a day like that? If Valentine’s Day was just about chocolate, I’d be all over it. It’s the love part that bothers me.
For some people, this holiday is painful. They don’t have a spouse. Or a boyfriend. Or a date. Or a prospect of getting any of those. I don’t blame them for dreading Valentine’s Day—which is just a pseudo-holiday, a vast conspiracy to sell flowers and chocolate.
All the focus on romance can make people feel lonely; even unloved or unlovable . It doesn’t work for people who feel the love–and give the love— in ways that don’t involve hearts and flowers. Romantic love doesn’t always look like a Valentine anyway. Check this out. Snapshots of love; all in six words each.
V always asks me how I want to celebrate, but I don’t really have expectations of Valentine’s Day as a celebration of love. I’ve never really bought into that concept. I think I’m lucky to feel love around me all the time.
I do have a suggestion to fix this holiday so everyone could participate, no one would feel lonely or miserable–and it would also make Valentine’s Day truly meaningful and memorable. How about if we share and celebrate love— 364 days a year. And make February 14 a day to celebrate chocolate.
May your day be filled with love—-milk, dark, white, or semi-sweet.

Darryle,
I meant to post this on the Ring Blog and accidentally posted here. I say it is my Stroke Mind again. I do things like this so often since I have had it!! Hey, that’s okay though. At least I am alive and have a mind, as mixed up as it may be! You are loved by your readers and touch more lives than you know. Happy V Day!
