Between the lines of my venting I've tried to clarify that my family, which truly is wonderful, is also as dysfunctional as any other family.
As individual people, however, some of us are more dysfunctional personally---and I'd put myself at the top of the list.

My thoughts exactly: Blogs are for venting. Thanks again for letting us share your wonderful family (by the way, I know you are probably thinking, "he should only know" but we all have our dysfunctional sides, don't we?)

Ron: First of all, FYI ByJane is not the Jane with the cookie jar , but my friend Jane from cyberspace, maybe I should call her "virtual Jane."
Also--I love your comments and why should you apologize for venting--isn't that what blogs are for??

I think you are both adorable, mostly because my parents never acted like they cared whether I came home or not (100 years ago when I was in college). They said the right things but never with any real feeling or emotion behind it. I am reminded of one of my favorite lines from a movie, "Mother" with Debbie Reynolds as a Jewish Mother and Albert Brooks as her neurotic son. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. They are on the phone, in a shallow conversation when Debbie Reynolds gives Albert the obligatory "I love you" and he replied, "I know you think you do". Well, I digress, but that is what the other side of parental "love" sounds like and I am delighted that no one in either of your families seems to have ever experienced anything like that. Whew! Thanks for letting me vent (Seems to be a recurrent theme in my comments around the holidays).

You and your kids are very lucky indeed to have such warm and loving relationships.

I remember the days when people could come onto a fight to see you off. In some ways it's better the rules are changed. If I had been allowed onto that plane with my kids, the flight attendants would have had to peel me off.

My mother was the 'bye, see you later' type. My dad, however, couldn't let go. I remember him seeing me onto the plane and into my seat--and I was in my 20s, returning to my husband in England!
